FIRST WORLD WAR ENCAMPMENT A "Living History Weekend" of the First World War was hosted by the Maryland and Pennsylvania Railroad Preservation Society at Muddy Creek Forks on Saturday, October 13 and Sunday, October 14. This World War I Encampment was offered by members of the Great War Association at the Ma & Pa Railroad Heritage Village, a registered early 1900's historic district of the National Register of Historic Places. The encampment is intended to represent soldiers from at least five different nations that participated in World War I. Uniformed armed forces of the United States, Great Britain, France, Belgium, and Germany will be on hand to demonstrate the equipment of the first great conflict of the 20th Century. The displays will illustrated how, over four years of war, the bright uniforms and tactics of 1914 from the era of Napoleon quickly gave way to the camouflage and modern weaponry of 1918 that is familiar to us today. Sending messages by telegraph, the dominant means of communication, was also be demonstrated. The role of the railroads in WW I was interpreted by the Society.
Tool Car X-11 at Delta, PA - 1969.

The Tool Car X-11 moves to the Ma & Pa RR.
A special thanks to the Potomac Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society (NRHS) which authorized a matching grant program of $500 for the purpose of acquiring and restoring former Ma & Pa Tool Car X-11
In 1983, after 27 years of service, X-11 was retired and sold to Joe Corasaniti. He moved the car to Baltimore and has kept it there on property owned by his family. Corasaniti donated X-11 to the Maryland & Pennsylvania Railroad Preservation Society. The car is entirely intact and a good candidate for preservation. Although its condition has not yet been systematically assessed, it appears an initial restoration for display will require only replacement of some deteriorated wood sheathing and paint. The opportunity to preserve X-11 depended on raising the money needed to move it from Baltimore to Muddy Creek Forks. Because of your generosity, the move has been accomplished and the car sits on the Ma & Pa tracks in Muddy Creek Forks, PA.

The Ma & Pa RR Historical Society and the Ma & Pa Preservation Society are working together to locate, professionally copy, archive, and make available to their membership as much vintage movie film of the Maryland and Pennsylvania Railroad as possibly can be obtained. If you have or know of black and white or color movie film showing trains, track, or railroad related structures on the original Maryland or Pennsylvania Divisions before the rails were removed please contact Rudy Fisher as follows:
Even if you have only a few minutes of film, we would still like to copy it. The names of persons who allow their movies to be used in the combined Society project, will be given credit in the completed CD or DVD that includes their footage.
All film will be returned to its owner by Certified Mail. Also, all who participate will be given a free copy of the entire CD or DVD once it is completed!
